AHSAA Flag Football Spotlight
MONTGOMERY – Junior Dominique Lynn intercepted two passes and returned both for touchdowns as Carroll defeated Emmanual Christian of Dothan 50-0 spoiling the Warriors’ AHSAA Flag Football debut. The Eagles (1-4) scored four touchdowns in the final 16 minutes to pull out the win. Lynn, who also caught a touchdown pass on offense, grabs this week’s AHSAA Flag Football Spotlight.
Lynn’s two interception returns covered 24 and 15 yards for scores to seal the win.
Carroll head coach Makyln Yoli praised her team’s improvement from game 1 to game 2. The Eagles lost to Enterprise 19-0 in their season opener.
“For the girls, this shows their hard work is paying off,” Yoli told Dothan Eagle sportswriter David Mundee after the win. “We only lost to Enterprise 19-0 last week, but even that game I wasn’t mad as they played with more grit than I have seen, and they were more physical. Our defense is getting better with some interceptions. As far as offense, the motion plays are starting to work better than they have in the past. We are blocking better.”
For Carroll, Cayden Jefferson returned a third interception 42 yards for a touchdown midway in the first half. A 32-yard pass from Nazareeia Johnson to Lynn led to a 1-yard TD run by Cy’nyah Snell.
Sydney Riggins caught a 22-yard TD pass, Snell added a 61-yard TD run and Snell caught a 13-yard TD pass. Riggins added a 50-yard run for a touchdown.
Emmanuel Christian head coach Corey Bradford said his team will have some growing pains with only one player with previous flag football experience and a seven-player roster that has no seniors, only one junior and one sophomore with the rest of the freshmen or younger.
“You are not only looking at youth in age and classification wise, but also experience wise with only one player that has played flag football,” Bradford said. “We are not going to look at the end result. If we win or lose, there is something you can still learn. That is what I try to emphasize … to improve from practice to practice, which we have done. That is also our goal.”
Abi Gore led Emmanuel Christian with seven pass receptions for 21 yards. Jaiden Coleman had two catches for 18 yards.
