Everyone knew that when the Alabama Crimson Tide made their first visit to Sanford Stadium in 10 years this September, the Georgia Bulldogs would have a new starting quarterback.
But in a surprise move Thursday, two-year starter Carson Beck is reportedly planning to enter the transfer portal, rather than enter the NFL Draft as he’d previously announced on Dec. 28.
Beck was 24-3 as Georgia’s starting quarterback across the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Two of his three losses came to Alabama — 27-24 in the 2023 SEC Championship Game and this past season on Sept. 28 when the Crimson Tide stormed out to a 28-0 lead in the second quarter and then had to rally late for a thrilling 41-34 victory.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the Miami Hurricanes “looms as the favorite” to land Beck, with Notre Dame also in the mix.
From Thamel’s report:
“He wants to win,” said the source close to Beck. “He didn’t come back to get knocked out at halftime of a conference championship.”
Beck suffered a season-ending elbow injury in the Bulldogs’ 22-19 overtime win over the Texas Longhorns in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 7. He threw for 3,845 yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this past season.
Alabama is scheduled to face Georgia on Sept. 27 in Athens.
