The Alabama Crimson Tide football program officially announced the latest coaching staff hire Friday morning in former player, as well as coach, Jason Jones.

With the Crimson Tide, Jones will hold the official title of assistant defensive backs coach. Jones had previously been linked to Alabama earlier this month, according to reports.

The newest Alabama assistant now returns to Tuscaloosa for the first time since 2004 when he served as a graduate assistant with the Crimson Tide during the 2003-04 seasons. Prior to that, Jones was a standout defensive back with the Crimson Tide in the late-1990’s.

Elsewhere in his coaching career, Jones comes to Alabama with a lengthy coaching record that dates back to the early-2000’s. This has included stops at  places such as Tulsa, Rice, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Florida Atlantic, Indiana, and most recently, North Carolina.

Each of those stops have been coaching defensive backs, with the two last at North Carolina as the Tar Heels’ cornerbacks coach.
