When taking an early look ahead to the 2025 college football season, the Alabama Crimson Tide are set to enter the year as one of the nation’s premier teams once again, even despite coming off a down 2024 campaign.

Yes, Alabama did struggle at times during the 2024 season in year one under Kalen DeBoer, ending the campaign with a 9-4 overall record, as well as a 5-3 mark in SEC play. This was Alabama’s worst single-season since 2007, which was Nick Saban’s first in Tuscaloosa, as well as the first time the Crimson Tide have lost three SEC games in a year since 2010.

Looking ahead however, what now lies ahead for Kalen DeBoer and Alabama in 2025? Will the Crimson Tide continue those struggles to begin the post-Saban era, or will Alabama take the next step back into a national championship contender?

While time will obviously tell the answer to that question, let’s take a look ahead, and list five predictions for the 2025 Alabama football season as the college football offseason officially begins.

1

Alabama will make the College Football Playoff

This past season, Alabama was the first team to miss out of the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, as the selection committee ultimately chose SMU over the Crimson Tide for the final spot in the field. Alabama should once again be in position to make the College Football Playoff next year, and I’ll say that the Crimson Tide do in fact make the field, as well as contend for a first round bye, in 2025.

Alabama defense will be among nation’s best

In year one under defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, Alabama’s defense ranked No. 10 in the nation with an average of only 17.4 PPG allowed to opponents. Next season, numerous starters all across the defensive side of the ball are set to return, with some having bypassed the NFL draft to do so, setting the stage for what has the makings to be an elite Alabama defense in 2025.

3

Alabama will lose one regular season game

As predicted in the way-too-early 2025 game predictions a few weeks back, I think Alabama does lose one regular season game next season, which would still have the Crimson Tide in position to make the College Football Playoff, as well as contend for a SEC title. Alabama’s road games next season will come at Florida State, Georgia, Missouri, South Carolina, and Auburn.

4

Quarterback will be a strength for Alabama

With starter Jalen Milroe departing for the NFL, Alabama will now have a quarterback competition starting this offseason between the returning duo of Ty Simpson and Austin Mack, as well as true freshman and five-star recruit Keelon Russell. I’ll say that one of these three names takes control as the starter early in the 2025 season, and the current unknown for Alabama at quarterback ends up becoming a strength later in the year.

5

Alabama will have a player in Heisman Trophy contention

Lastly, I’ll say that Alabama will have a player in Heisman Trophy contention at the end of the year, if not send someone to New York for the ceremony. Potential options will likely be either Alabama’s eventual starting quarterback, or sophomore wide receiver Ryan Williams.
