MONTGOMERY – The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Central Board of Control approved a four-year plan presented by AHSAA Executive Director Heath Harmon for the Super 7 State Football Championships at is annual winter meeting Wednesday at the AHSAA office.

     Those sites will be Birmingham’s Protective Stadium and Mobile’s Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama. The plan calls for the 2025 and 2027 Super 7 to be at Birmingham and the 2026 and 2028 Super 7 Championships to be at Mobile.
     “I want to thank all the cities that showed interest in hosting our Super 7 football championships in the coming years,” said Harmon. “All were impressive and could be outstanding venues for our Super 7 event,” said Harmon. “However, after much study and discussion, we concluded these two cities were our best options at this time. And I especially  want to thank our Central Board for their guidance and support.”
     The Board also heard a report and approved the budget presented by  Knight-Eady’s Daniel Smith concerning the upcoming 2025 State Basketball Championships. The CBOC approved the addition of certified athletic trainer Brandon Sheppard to the AHSAA Medical Advisory Board.
    In other Central Board action Wednesday:

  • Board members were introduced to some of the newest members of the AHSAA Executive staff.
  • Heard appeals from North Jackson High School and the Autauga County Board of Education and upheld the original rulings handed down by the AHSAA.
  • Approved 2024 Region and State Volleyball, Cross Country, and Swimming Financial Reports from CFO Amy Gulledge.
  • Reviewed a football playoff comparison financial report for the first four rounds.
  • Heard a report from Mr. Harmon concerning the NFHS Winter Executive Directors meeting he recently attended.
  • Authorized the AHSAA to work with the State Department of Education concerning the ALSDE Option B Diploma students can pursue.
  • Was updated about the Legislative Proposal process currently underway.
  • Heard an update concerning the AHSAA winter sports.
  • Set the Spring CBOC Meeting for April 10, 2025.
