AUBURN – The 2022 AHSAA Super 7 State Football Championships topped 61,000 for all eight games.
“We can’t thank the cities of Auburn and Opelika and Auburn University enough for what they do to make the Super 7 experience so special for our schools and our communities,” said Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Executive Director Alvin Briggs.
“The Super 7 has become such an important event in the lives of our student-athletes thanks to our opportunity to play in such special venues like Auburn, Tuscaloosa, and Birmingham.  This year was very special and lifetime memory for our student-athletes, coaches, schools, and communities.”
Total attendance was 61,519 with Friday’s attendance topping the week with 23,837 for the 2A, 4A and 6A championship games. Wednesday’s total, which included the Flag Football and Class 7A championship game, drew 23,464. Thursday’s total was 14,218 for classes 1A, 3A and 5A.
Briggs also praised the work of Knight Eady and the many volunteers who stepped forward at Auburn.
“Our state championships are the best in the nation,” he said. “Our teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship. We are very blessed.”
Briggs also acknowledge the NFHS Network and Alabama Public Television, plus the AHSAA Radio Network, for providing the opportunity for thousands more to see and hear the games in their living rooms in virtually every corner of the state and the nation.
