Fayetteville Hosts Randolph County Tonight in
AHSAA TV/NFHS Network Game of the Week
MONTGOMERY – Fayetteville High School takes on unbeaten Randolph County High School in tonight’s AHSAA TV Network/NFHS Network Football Game of the Week produced by WOTM TV.
In addition, the NFHS Network’s AHSAA School Broadcast Program is live-streaming 244 events this weekend with 62 varsity football games being produced by AHSAA member schools Friday and 51 varsity volleyball matches set to be livestreamed tonight over the NFHS Network live-stream portal. A total of 254 events, including varsity, junior varsity, freshman and middle school football games and volleyball matches, have been scheduled for the week.
This week’s Game of the Week is being produced by NFHS Network TV partner WOTM TV under the direction of executive producer Vince Earley.
The game will be live-streamed over the NFHS Network subscriber-based program and will also be available on the network of cable stations that have joined the WOTM Network in Alabama. Tommy Wood and Rick Rhoades will be handling the commentary for the WOTM/NFHS Network production.
Earley also announced the lineup of AHSAA TV Network Game of the Week pairings for next week will be Class 4A, Region 7 clash between Madison County and Madison Academy at Gurley.
The Class 2A, Region 4 game at Fayetteville is one of four key region battles this weekend. The Wolves (2-3) of Coach John Limbaugh are 1-2 in the region and the Tigers (5-0) of Coach Pat Prestridge are unbeaten at 3-0. The game will be the first meeting between the two schools – and a contrast of the old and the new. Fayetteville had its first football season in 1997 and is coming off just their third playoff appearance in school history after going 6-5 last season. Limbaugh, 37-51 in his ninth season at the helm, guided the Wolves to a 9-3 season in 2015.
Randolph County, which began play in 1920, is fast approaching its 500th school win – owning a 484-392-25 record in 99 seasons. The Tigers, competing in 3A, were 11-2 last season and have won nine or more games since 2015 compiling a 68-13 record in the process. Prestridge is 130-48 in two stints at Wedowee, and is 147-71 overall including his first head-coaching job at Oakman. Randolph County won its only state title in 2003.
“We have been fortunate to have some great players,” Prestridge said of Randolph County’s tradition. “We have had the opportunity to compete in 2A and 3A where almost every year the state champion has come out of that region.”
Limbaugh praised that tradition. “Randolph County presents a strong challenge,” he said. “We have played well this season, came very close in a couple of games we lost and I our kids are very resilient. We have to respect every rep … if we can do that I think we can win the game.”
Kickoff for tonight’s game is set for 7 p.m., and can be seen over the NFHS Network and the WOTM TV Network’s cable station affiliates across the state. Rounding out the remaining games of the week will be Madison Academy at Madison County on Oct. 8; Gordo at Fayette County on Oct. 15; Ramsay at Pleasant Grove on Oct. 22; and Central-Phenix City at Oxford on Oct. 29 to close out the regular season.
