Grissom Tigers (1-1)         vs.           Sparkman Senators (1-2)

NFHS Network to Live-Stream 71 Football Games Friday

Grissom Faces Sparkman in AHSAA TV Game of the Week Tonight at Huntsville
MONTGOMERY – The Grissom Tigers (1-1) will host the Sparkman Senators meet Charles Henderson High School’s Trojans (0-1) tonight 7 p.m. at Milton Frank Stadium in Huntsville in the AHSAA TV Network Game of the Week.
The game is being produced by Vince Earley and the production crew at WOTM TV. It will be available over the NFHS Network and WOTM TV’s network of cable stations across Alabama. The Game of the Week broadcast team consisting of former Troy University head football coach Rick Rhoades, who will handle the color commentary, and veteran announcer Tommy Wood, will handle the play-by-play.
Earley also announced that WOTM T would televise live Saturday’s Central-Phenix City (1-2) vs. Jeff Davis (0-2) Class 7A, Region 2 game at Cramton Bowl, which will kick off at 11 a.m. The game will be available over the AHSAA TV Network.
The two schools will meeting for the 22nd time since the series began in 1971. The Senators (1-2), coached by Laron White, have a 15-6 record in the Class 7A, Region 4 rivalry. White, in his fourth season at Sparkman, has compiled a 20-15 record – the best winning percentage of any coach in school history who served more than two years as head coach. White (168-45) moved to Sparkman from Tanner, where he spent 14 seasons. He guided the Rattlers to a 148-30 record during that span winning back-to-back Class 2A state titles in 2012 and 2013 with 14-1 and 14-0 records, respectively.
Chip English is 11-20 and showing much improvement in his fourth season at Grissom. The Tigers (1-1) were 1-39 in the previous four years prior to his tenure. Grissom is coming off a 57-0 win over Lee-Huntsville last week. The 57 points is the most scored in school history. Cullman shut out the Tigers 23-0 in the first game of the year.
“Offensively, we played much better last week,” said English. “We have a lot of confidence in our quarterback Jakob Foss. He can get the ball where it needs to be. If we can give him the protection up front, our offense is very effective.”
Defensively, the shutout over Lee gives his players a big boost, he said. Grissom also blanked Lee 48-0 last year – the first shutout by a Grissom team since a season-opening 43-0 win over Butler in 2009.
Sparkman opened the season in 2019 with seven straight wins, including a 45-6 victory over the Tigers, and finished 8-3. This year, the Senators dropped a 22-7 decision to Gardendale in the season opener, fell 39-7 to defending Class 7A state champion Thompson and beat Albertville 45-21 to win their Region 4 opener last week.
