When the Alabama Crimson Tide dropped their third game of the season in disappointing fashion to the Oklahoma Sooners, it seemed like their Playoff hopes were totally over. However, after coming in at No. 11 in this week’s CFP Poll, the Tide are in a great spot to sneak in, with only Clemson having a real chance to jump them with an ACC Championship and automatic bid. At 11-1 on the year, SMU is in regardless of the outcome so we all need to cheer for the Tigers to lose.
Even before the CFP Poll came out, many people agreed that Alabama, due to its quality of wins, would be deserving of the final spot over teams like Miami and Ole Miss. If there is anyone to trust on that matter, it would be the sportsbooks who strongly support the Crimson Tide. For example, Fanduel Sports earlier this week had the Alabama Crimson Tide as a -210 favorite to make the playoffs. Meaning, you would have to bet $21 to win $10.
At the time of writing, Alabama is currently at -460 to make the CFP.
Despite the losses, I still believe like Alabama can win a national title depending on which team shows up. The Alabama team that beat Georgia could win it all, but if it’s the same team that showed up in Norman they could be in for a long night at either likely Notre Dame or Penn State.
But I can assure you there is no team in the playoffs that would want part of any Alabama team sneaking in even if they are a bit under the radar.
Per @FDSportsbook Miami and South Carolina now have the same odds to make the CFP while Alabama continues to trend up…
Miami (+600 yes / -1100 no)
South Carolina (+600 yes / -1100 no)
Alabama (-210 yes / +162 no)— Josh Pate (@JoshPateCFB) December 3, 2024
